Brimwick Cascade

Narnvak
Warm and pleasant, generally very humid due to the close proximity of water.
Description:
A set of waterfalls that spill down the cliffside of Narnvak into the ocean, fed from a series of smaller pools and waterfalls. Halfway up the falls, a chunk of the cliffside pushes outwards. Here, the water collects into a perfect oval pool before spilling over into the river below. Tufts of seagrass form in clusters; the nests of seagulls and sandpipers crowd niches in the stone. The weather here is generally pleasant and excellent for relaxing but can shift wildly with the coastal atmosphere.
Landmarks:
  • Brimwick Bay - The Cascades empties into this small bay. The tiny fish that found themselves over the falls live here, providing a meal for the seabirds that nest on the cliffside. Large blue crabs also prey upon the fish, and in turn, are preyed upon by lucky fishermen. Small holes in the walls of the bay allow for the fish and crabs to hide.
  • Sea Shanty Caves - A series of caves hidden behind the largest of the three falls. The caves are not very deep but it does create a rather large echoing chamber. Toward the back of the cave, echoes dull and bounce off the walls creating a rhythmic effect that many use for singing
  • Soaking Pools - The falls are fed by a series of smaller falls with a collection of pools around them. The shallow water is excellent for soaking and makes for a great place to float and relax while listening to the sound of the falls. Moss and slippery algae are quite prevalent on the surrounding rocks, so care is advised when walking around the pools.
  • Cannigan's Pool-The perfectly oval Cannigan's Pool is the last large pool before the water from above feeds into Brimwick Bay. Due to it's size and general shallowness it remains quite warm and is a prized lounging location by both locals and Tokotas. The Pool also offers a magnificent view of the Bay below.
  • Siren's Crag-Siren's Crag juts dramatically out of the waterfall above the Sea Shanty Caves. Seabirds can frequently be seen taking refuge on it, despite the spray from the falls. Local legend also suggests that the area is frequented by a siren when the moon is dark.
Lore:
  • For decades, a local rite of passage has been to jump from the top of the waterfall to Brimwick Bay during a full moon. Those who possess a more daring spirit seek to climb from the base of the cliff to the top of the Cascades. Both tasks require strength, determination, and, perhaps, a streak of madness.
  • It is not uncommon for travelers to visit the Sea Shanty Caves to experience their unique sounds that the echoes create. It also makes for a great prank for the uninformed in the area that believe in mermaids or ghosts.
  • While locals flock to the Cascade during full moons, they avoid it entirely when no moon can be seen in the sky. Historical stories from the area suggest that when no moonlight bathes Siren's Crag the siren will emerge, and attempt to lure the unaware to their demise.
