This guide includes rules for decoration items including Small & Large Items, Hand Paint Dyes, Scar Packs, and more. For rules about Makeover and Do-Over Tokens, go here.

Small and Large Items

Small Items and Large Items allow you to add objects or edit the physical appearance of the Tokota. Homemade Small Items, Homemade Large Items, and Server Booster Large Items have the same effect as their regular counterparts.
  • Objects are items like hats, flowers, feathers, saddles, etc.
  • Physical Edits are edits to the fur, traits, expression, musculature, etc.
  • Separate Items must be used for Objects and Physical Edits even if they overlap or could fit within one item circle
  • Multiple Objects or multiple Physical Edits that fit within one item circle may count as one item (for example, a hat and earring can be one Large Item if they both fit under one Large Item circle)
  • You must list what you are adding or changing with Small/Large Items, either in your Import Info or in your DC Form

Sizing

The only difference between Small and Large Items is the size.
➥ PSD File with Decor Item Sizing

Item circles are approximate, and small details of an item may fall slightly outside the circles. Very simple straps, necklace cords, and other tiny or thin details will not count towards item size.

Objects Rules

  • Objects may not solidly cover more than 25% (¼) of the Tokota.
    • Transparent or semi-transparent areas of an object may exceed this maximum, determined by DC admin on a case-by-case basis.
  • Horns, wings, and other unnatural features must include a visible strap or other adhesive.
  • Animals (other than Tokotas) may be added to the import, either on top of the Tokota or in the surrounding area.
    • The Tokota does not need to have that animal as an official companion.
    • The animal must be in the foreground like the Tokota itself.
  • Objects may be on the ground near the Tokota.
    • Objects cannot alter the actual background; for example, a potted plant next to the Tokota's feet is acceptable, but a plant sprouting from the ground itself is not.
    • Objects must be in the foreground like the Tokota itself.
  • Objects must be PG. Admins reserve the right to deny an item that is considered inappropriate, graphic, or otherwise against our Rulebook.
    • Weapons are allowed, but cannot be bloody or suggesting harm to the Tokota or others.
  • Objects must be somewhat original.
    • Photographs and stock imagery are not allowed.
    • Cannot be copyrighted works or others' work used without permission.
  • Unnatural liquids like tar, paint, goo, etc. cannot be located in the mouth, eyes, or ears of a Tokota. Drool, food, and other items are acceptable in the mouth.
  • Objects may cover the skin and eyes if desired.

Physical Edits Rules

  • Edits may not exceed 75% of the Tokota (25% of the original lineart must be visible).
  • Edits may not significantly change the Tokota's anatomy. A Tokota may be edited to appear slightly more wolf- or bear-like, but excessive edits that change the facial or body structure to that of a cat, horse, or any other animal is not allowed. Subtle edits that are cat-like, horse-like, etc. are acceptable so long as the anatomy remains mostly Tokota.
  • Edits may not resemble another mane type, build, etc. Excessive editing to the mane and/or body to resemble another mane or build will be denied. At first glance, the Tokota must be recognizable as its correct mane and build.
  • Using parts of other manes’ official lineart is allowed, so long as it does not make the Tokota resemble that mane. For example, using the feet fluff of a Long Mane on a Natural Mane is acceptable, as it does not make the Tokota look like a Long Mane.
  • Amputation (missing leg) is limited to one leg, and cannot be graphic. More legs may be missing if prosthetics are used.
  • Edits that resemble Physical Traits will require that Physical Trait be present as well.
    • Any tail shortened to less than 50% of the original length will require Bob Tail trait.
  • Physical Traits may be edited as well, for example, a Bob Tail shortened, Fangs lengthened, extra fluff added to Rose Ears, etc.
    • Ear traits may hide the effect of the Physical Trait on one ear for no cost (no Item needed) - for example, one Floppy Ear and one normal ear.

Hand Paint Dyes

A Hand Paint Dye allows you to add colored paint to your Tokota. Crafted Hand Paint Dyes give the same effect.

Sizing

The amount of Hand Paint Dyes required for a design is determined by the amount of coverage and amount of colors.
➥ PSD File with Decor Item Sizing
  • One Hand Paint Dye may include up to 2 circles' worth of coverage.
    • Circles may be spread out on the design, or the two circles' coverage may be placed next to each other to create a larger painted area.
    • Each additional Hand Paint Dye may add up to 2 more circles of coverage.
  • One Hand Paint Dye may include up to 2 distinct colors.
    • Gradients between colors are allowed.
    • Each additional Hand Paint Dye may add up to 2 more colors.
  • A maximum of 7 Hand Paint Dyes may be used.
    • Maximum of 14 circles of coverage, up to 33% (⅓) total coverage of the design
    • Maximum of 14 distinct colors

Rules

  • Paints may be any color not present in the Tokota's design (cannot be the exact same color as the Base Coat or any markings).
  • Cannot be glowing (see Aippaq's Hand Paint Dyes)
  • Paints may have hard or soft edges, and may have a spray can or airbrush effect. Paint edges must be distinguishable, and not fully blended into the design.
  • Paint symbols cannot be so extremely intricate and small that it would be impossible for it to have been hand painted. A level of detail is allowed, but it must be reasonable.
  • Painted short words, numbers, or characters are allowed. Longer words or phrases are not allowed.
  • Paints on flesh:
    • Paints cannot cover the eyes, pawpads, or inside the mouth.
    • Paints can appear on the nose, but cannot cover the entire nose.
    • Paints can color the nails.
  • Paints cannot hide Minimum Marked. At maximum, 33% (⅓) of total Minimum Marked may be covered by paints.
  • All paints must be PG. Admins reserve the right to deny a symbol or word that is considered inappropriate, graphic, or otherwise against our Rulebook.
    • Paints resembling weapons, dried blood, etc. are allowed with admin discretion.
  • Paints must be somewhat original.
    • Photographs and stock imagery are not allowed.
    • Cannot be copyrighted works or others' work used without permission
  • Handprint symbol is reserved for admin use.

Aippaqs Hand Paint Dyes

Aippaqs Hand Paint Dyes follow the same rules as Hand Paint Dyes, but they glow.

Rules

  • One Aippaqs Hand Paint Dye allows for the same coverage as one standard Hand Paint Dye.
  • Hand Paint Dyes and Aippaqs Hand Paint Dyes may be combined in one design, but have a combined maximum count of 7 Paint Dyes.

Scar Packs

Scar Packs allow you to add scars to your Tokota. Any scarring that changes the lineart will require a Small or Large Item in addition to the Scar Pack(s).

Sizing

The amount of Scar Packs required for a design is determined by the amount of scar coverage.
➥ PSD File with Decor Item Sizing
  • One Scar Pack may include up to 2 circles' worth of coverage.
    • Circles may be spread out on the design, or the two circles' coverage may be placed next to each other to create a larger scarred area.
    • Each additional Scar Pack adds up to 2 more circles of coverage.
  • A maximum of 7 Scar Packs may be used.
    • Maximum of 14 circles of coverage, up to 33% (⅓) total coverage of the design

Rules

  • Scar Packs cannot alter the lineart. Small or Large Items may be used in combination with Scar Packs to create scars that edit the lineart.
  • Scars must be a realistic color, but do not need to match the nose or paw pad color.
  • Small brands (an icon, symbol, or number seared into the Tokota to determine its ownership) are allowed. Otherwise, scars cannot be clearly "manmade," or deliberate shapes, numbers, or letters.

Sivoganiks Charm

A Sivoganiks Charm allows a Tokota's eyes to glow.

Rules

  • Glow can be subtle or bright, but should not be so large that it covers more than the immediate area around the eyes.
  • Details of the eye (pupil, etc.) may still be visible, or may be completely hidden under the glow.
  • Color of the glow must match the eye color, therefore illegal eye colors are not allowed unless using a Meelaniks Jinx as well.

Meelaniks Jinx

A Meelaniks Jinx allows a Tokota's eyes to have an unnatural color and/or pupil shape. It may also be used to change the eye color of any uploaded Tokota, either to a natural or unnatural color.

Rules

  • Eyes may be any color, including neon, red, and other colors that are typically illegal for Tokotas.
  • Heterochromia may be present (two different colors with hard edges).
  • Multicolored eyes (two or more colors with soft edges) are allowed, but colors must be blended rather than hard edges.
  • Pupil must still be present, but may be a slit, geometric shape, or other unnatural shape.
  • Pupil may be lighter or darker than the iris.

Agas Charm

An Agas Charm allows for the application of special effects frames to your Tokota's import.

Rules

  • Aga's Charms can only be applied to uploaded Tokotas through Import Updates thread. This cannot be applied to a design in Main Thread/Soul Pool/etc. or at the same time as a do-over.
  • Only frames provided by the group may be used with this item. All frames can be found in this folder.
  • Frames sit at the top layer of the import, in front of the Tokota, background, and any other decor.
  • Frames must adhere to the original positioning provided, and may not be altered.
  • Only one frame may be applied to a single import at a time.

Nagruks Charm

A Nagruks Charm allows for the application of pre-approved animal decor to your Tokota’s Import.

Rules

  • May not solidly cover more than 25% (¼) of the Tokota.
  • Can be moved, resized slightly, and flipped, but must remain in the foreground like the Tokota (cannot be sized tiny and in the far background)
  • Cannot be recolored or edited in any other way
  • Can only be applied to uploaded Tokotas through Import Updates thread. This cannot be applied to a design in Main Thread/Soul Pool/etc. or at the same time as a do-over.

Xoqohs Trinket

Xoqohs Trinket allows for minor edits to your Tokota’s import at a smaller price than other Decor Items.

All edits allowed by Xoqoh’s Trinket may be done for free when using any other Decor Item. Xoqoh’s Trinket simply allows you to complete any of these edits at a smaller cost.

Uses

  • Removing Decor Items
  • Removing Physical Traits from the design (will be carried)
  • Coloring lineart
  • Removing, adding, or changing halo around the Tokota
  • Removing, adding, or changing designer watermark
  • Changing to a free background
  • Changing to another color option of the already applied Borga background (ie. changing from "Original Spirit Falls" to "Old Fashioned Spirit Falls")
  • Moving a lowered head Submissive Tokota to raised head pose
  • Lowering the tail of a Dominant or Alpha Tokota (requires application of an official Dom Symbol)
  • Raising the tail of a Dominant or Alpha Tokota (with or without removing the Dom Symbol)
  • Any additional changes to the Tokota's import that do not require the use of another Decor Item

Sikrinerk Bauble

A Sikrinerk Bauble allows a Tokota to have halos using unnatural or illegal colors.

Rules

  • Halos may be any color, including neon and colors that are not from the background.
  • Multicolored halos are allowed, but colors must be blended rather than hard edges.
  • Halos must follow all other existing rules regarding size, blending, and opacity. Please check the Miscellaneous Information Design Guide for rules.

Retired Lineart

Throughout Tokotas history, a few import linearts have been retired when a new version was released. You may still opt to use these linearts if desired, for the cost of a Makeover Token.

Retired linearts include:

  • Old Long Mane (Standard)
  • Old Yeti Mane (Standard)
  • Curly v1 & v2 (Standard)
  • Old Razor (Standard)
  • Old Rough Mane (Standard, Toki, Dire, Akota)
  • Short Mane v3 (Standard, Toki, Dire, Akota)
  • Half Mane v3 (Standard, Toki, Dire, Akota)
  • Old Dire Build (Natural, Half, Sphinx, Long)
Retired Lineart can be found with the rest of the Official Import Templates.

If designing a geno on retired lineart, submit to the Soul Pool thread and use the Makeover Token to “unlock” the lineart use. If you are changing an uploaded Tokota to a retired lineart, submit to Import Updates thread, and use either a Makeover Token or Do-Over Token (depending on if you want to change the Tokota's design) to cover the cost of the retired lineart.

Editing Retired Linearts

  • You are also allowed to edit the lineart using Small & Large Items in the same way as standard linearts.
  • Combining retired lineart with current lineart will require the use of a Makeover Token and Small or Large Items.
  • These linearts are not kept up to date with all physical traits. Adding your own custom physical traits to these linearts will require the use of Items.

FAQ

  • I don't know how many items I need to cover my design. What can I do?
    • If possible, use the PSD File with Decor Item Sizing to measure how many items are needed. Otherwise, make your best guess. The DC admin that looks over your design will let you know if you need to update your item totals. If you'd like to avoid going to DC corrections for not listing enough items, you may use the “Buy for Me” line in the DC Form to allow the DC admin to take any additional items from your bank.
  • Do the maximum sizes of items change in proportion to different builds (toki, dire, etc.)?
    • No, the sizing circles for items remain the same size for every build.
  • If I want to draw my Tokota with a braid in her mane, does it have to be officially applied to her import?
    • Nope! You have freedom to decorate your Tokota as you wish in your artwork at no cost, so long as your Tokota is still recognizable for HP purposes. Decor items are only for the official import template.
  • I want to remove items from my Tokota. Is this free?
    • Yes - for the most part. It is free to remove all items except Meelaniks Jinxes. If you wish to change the Tokota's eye color again, you may simply use another Meelaniks Jinx for this. In most cases, you have the option of removing items during a hierarchy update. If you are removing an item that previously covered a large portion of the Tokota's design, you may be asked to go through Import Updates in DC instead.
  • Can I add items during a Hierarchy Update?
    • No, all decor items must be added in DC - either through Soul Pool thread as a geno, or through Import Updates as an uploaded Tokota.
  • I'm redesigning an uploaded Tokota. Can I keep its current items?
    • Yes. If the Items, paints, scars, etc. stay the same or very similar in color, placement, and appearance, you will not be charged additional to keep these items on the design during a Makeover or Do-Over. If they are changed too drastically, you will need to purchase these items again.
  • I don't have the PSD or full size PNG of an uploaded Tokota. Can I still add items?
    • Yes! In the case of uploaded Tokotas, you are not required to have the full size image to go through Import Updates in DC. If you do not have the original file for the Tokota (which is sized at 2543 x 1936), you may use their deviantart import image (which is sized at 1024 x 780).
  • Can a scar around my Tokota's eye cause blindness?
    • Yes, blindness is always free and optional to add to your Tokota, with or without scarring around the eyes. However, blind Tokotas will need to have blindness listed in their health status, and will affect their success in some areas of the group.
