Lore:
It is said that Lote Polne represents the beauty of Narnvak. She wanders coastlines cleaning all that harms the land and waters.

Many eons ago, Borga bore down on the land, sending an unimpeded winter storm to destroy the region. He claimed the land was in his way and he needed a clear path to expand his frozen kingdom. Lote Polne made a deal with Borga: if she, the most beautiful creature of Narnvak, could make herself so hideous as to scare away even the bravest of catfish found in the region's murkiest waters, Borga would leave the region unharmed. Borga agreed to these terms, but did not tell the female he had no intention of following through.

With the help of the region's inhabitants, Lote Polne set out to work. She plucked at her skin until it became pale and sickly. The humans were frightened and they quickly fled. In the holes in her skin she embedded rocks, sand, and small shining fish. Terrified, the sea creatures swam away from her. She smashed her nose upon a rock until it doubled in size, she pulled on her teeth until they grew long and yellowed in the sun. At the sight of her, birds cried and took to the sky. She raked her nails on Narnvak's lush trees until they became pointed and unforgiving. Tokotas quaked and became sick at the sight of her, turning tail to run far and wide. Finally, she broke her feet until she could barely walk. Bow-legged and wobbling, Lote Polne was alone. She dragged herself to the murkiest river and called for the largest, bravest catfish. The wide-mouthed behemoth rose from the depths, took one look at her and disappeared; never to be seen again. Satisfied with her own disfigurement, Lote Polne painfully returned to Borga. He took one look at her and scoffed: "Was that the best you can do?"

Feeling her heart breaking for Narnvak, something new began to happen within her. Her injuries began to mend, her color began to change from a sickly grey to a brilliant seafoam green. Frightened by her sudden magical ability, Borga fled and never looked back. And so, Lote Polne was made into a striking sea creature unlike any other. Tales of the creature began to draw tokotas, birds, fish, even humans back to the region. They claim remnants of her self-sacrifice are still visible in her now more beautiful form, but no more harm would ever come to her - as long as the inhabitants of Narnvak continued to protect the land, they protected her.
