Lore:

Siding completely with neither the Light nor the Dark, Paqxol is revered as the patron and champion of warriors both great and small, rumored to bless strength and ferocity upon those with a fiery spirit akin to his own, and to rip to pieces those who wage conflict without courage or honor. Due to his ever-present appetite for battle, some regard him as a harbinger of violence and destruction, while others hail him as a fierce protector of the jungle.
Stories from Maquraq claim that Paqxol was once a mortal soul, fiercely skilled in battle, and proud to claim that no creature in the jungle could match his teeth and claws in combat. Many stepped up to his challenge but none could defeat him, and his arrogance grew and grew until it riled even the spirits of Tokotna. His own pride inflamed by the hubris of a mere mortal, Meelanik himself stormed to Maquraq and called upon Paqxol to challenge him. Refusing to tarnish his honor as a warrior, Paqxol accepted. Despite his immense skill in battle, he was promptly devoured by the immortal Spirit of Hunger. But even faced with an eternity of torment, Paqxol's fiery spirit refused to give up. Instead of succumbing to Meelanik's hopeless void, Paqxol continued to fight, battling his way through endless hordes of violent and angry trapped souls. After a harrowing struggle, he fought his way out from the hideous jaws of the Devourer himself. Upon returning unconquered from the eternal darkness of the Devourer's maw, Paqxol's mortal form was born anew still bearing the scars of his past struggles, but also a reflection of the courage and tenacity that burns within him.
Those that praise Paqxol know him by his fearsome warrior's mask, said to be a parting gift from a friend of his that fell in battle. He wears it with pride to cover the worst of his scars, although he openly displays his bite from Meelanik as a reminder to all that he will back down from no challenge. Rumors say that he still roams the jungles of Maquraq, searching for another worthy opponent. It is believed that he sometimes challenges travelers to tests of strength and courage and bestows great gifts upon those that succeed. It is also fabled that lighting a fire in his name before a battle will invoke his favor, as will adorning battle gear with a colored ribbon or a jaguar's tooth.
