Locals tell stories of a creature within the Dunes, one that very few have seen. They say her howl echoes throughout Red Rock Ridge, mimicking the wind that blows across the land. It is these cries that have given the place its name; The Howling Dunes.

For those lucky enough to spot this creature, they are greeted with the sight of an akota made of sand; but she never stays in sight for too long, disappearing into the dunes without a single noise. Locals have sung many songs about her, the Dune Dog. Some say she had led travellers who have gone astray back home and some say she has led them further into her domain.. but no one knows for sure if her motives are good or bad.

Her shifting sands are said to be able to take any form; whether this is true or simply mirages seen by those who have wandered too far into the burning sands has yet to be proven. The majority of her sightings are at sunset, when the oranges and yellows reflecting in the sands throw her shadow into sharp relief.
