Soul Pool

Taniya
Varies from peculiarly warm to peculiarly cool; whatever it is, it is a very different atmosphere from the area around it. The Soul Pool gets rain for much of the year, and occasionally even snow, though the mysterious waters never freeze over.
Description:
The Soul Pool is an ancient landmark located in the White Forest of Taniya, protected by the TCA, multiple local nations and several other protective and government organizations. Its location is kept secret. Entry to the area is not prohibited, however Rangers may temporarily close the area of the White Forest surrounding the entrance of the Soul Pool to the public. Reasons for closures are never specified.

The Soul Pool itself is located within a stony cavern with an open ceiling. Massive natural stones jut out from the cavern's floor and from the pool itself. The cavernous walls of the Soul Pool create an echo that many Tokotas find unnerving. Visitors often attend in silence.

The water of the Soul Pool has been extensively tested by scientists and while it has a slightly more basic PH than, well, water, it is determined to be just that - just water. The anomaly has left scientists scratching their heads, but most folks prefer not the question the mystery of the Soul Pool as it is seen as a sacred place that can provide blessings to its visitors. Handlers will often bring their Tokotas to the Soul Pool in a journey for Dominance or Alpha-hood. Only Tokotas are allowed to drink from the pool's waters, and it is said they are often granted a vision to help them in their journey, providing a brief moment of clarity.
Landmarks:
  • Water's Edge - Not any particular Landmark as the entirety of the pool's edge is considered Water's Edge, but the location is considered one of great significance. Only those who approach the pool's edge, or stand on Water's Edge, may be blessed by the pool.
  • The Aurora Stone - There is one stone in particular inside of the Soul Pool Rumored to be an unmarked grave (be it of man or Tokota is unknown.) It is the only stone in the cavern that does not reflect light in the same way the others, leaving individuals to believe that it was brought to the site rather than a natural formation native to the area.
Lore:
  • It is said that some mystical, cryptid creatures like stone Fireflies, Kelpies and Jackalopes originate at the Soul Pool, though no one has been able to identify or locate any nests or colonies belonging to or containing these creatures. It is said that an Elemental Heart is required to 'draw them out of hiding,' although the process seems to be significantly more magical than simply enticing a cryptid into view...
  • On rare occasions, the Soul Pool's waters will glow a brilliant cyan color. Insects on the water's surface take on this blue glow, creating a mystifying sight.
  • According to ancient records, one of the earliest stories of the Soul Pool is that it was the birthplace of Aippaq, and of the Aurora borealis.
