Tokotna Research Center

Tartok
Brutal and cold on the Tartok Mountains. Seasonal Alaskan Wilderness at the main base.
Description:
The research center is located by the Kesuk Bay (near the Yakone pack territory) with a secondary outpost at the summit of the Tartok Mountains. The main center is devoted to the study of Tokotas and their ancestors. They advise tourists, enlist help from visiting and local tokota trainers, and keep a watchful eye out on the population and its health. It is closely connected to the Tagging Facility, and both are subject to the TCA's jurisdiction. Many of the researchers are elite Tokota owners themselves and are accustomed to long periods of time out in the wilderness. Their knowledge and expertise of the land help them collect valuable information of the wild Tokotas, which is relayed to the Tagging facility and TCA. Many of the finds in this base are used to help domestic tokotas. There are a number of non-permanent outposts in each pack territory, but they are taken down at the end of the season. This is to ensure the purity of the packs' behavior compared to the main base and Tartok Mountains.
Landmarks:
  • The Summit Outpost - Strictly devoted to the study of Dire Type Tokotas, specifically Fenrir, the sterilized pure-blooded Dire. He and his pack are the smallest by far of all the wilds, and precious to the TCA. The outpost is small and the climb can be a long way even with the guide lights. Researchers at the main facility are needed there, so the outpost often recruits skilled tokota owners and trainers to help them research the Dires. The Outpost requires a briefing and training period to ensure the safety of those working on the mountain. Internships are often offered to both facilities.
Lore:
  • There is a statue of a suspected distant ancestor of tokotas outside the main building.
  • There is a controversy among native tribes and modern tokota enthusiasts that research bases in this manner are harming the natural development of the Tokota species. Because of this schism the TCA has found it difficult to expand on more research projects other than the temporary outposts in each territory without upsetting tribal leaders or other traditionalists.
  • Apart from unscheduled wanderers and local tribes, there is said to be a growing crime syndicate on the mountains. The research outpost advises any encounter of the criminals must be reported, due to the small nature of the facility. It is NOT advised to take on these criminals alone!
