Waike Island

Narnvak
Most days this mysterious island off the coast of Narnvak is shrouded in mist and clouds. The humidity on the island is unreal, and often those that dare travel close to the island have to turn back for their navigation systems malfunction due to the heavy cloud cover. The waves and water are always rough here, making the island hard to reach, and those that do reach the island's shores usually do not make it off.
Description:
The island of Waike sits off to the east of Narnvak, the island is always clouded in mist and mystery. Those that try to venture towards the island are usually met with faulty navigation systems, a ring of rocky outcroppings around the island front, and waves and weather that even the best of sea captains avoid. Only the bravest of the brave enter here, or those that have a death wish. No one really knows. On the island itself, rocks and jagged cliffs alike create the outer ring in most areas, almost as if the island is trying to prevent visitors from reaching it. But once past the outer edge, the island erupts into foliage and undergrowth, just like that of a rainforest. There is a Lighthouse on the East side of the island, someone had to put it there, but how they built the lighthouse and if anyone still resides on the island, no one is certain.
Landmarks:
  • Eoghan’s Lighthouse - The deserted lighthouse sits on the highest peak of one of the cliffs of Waike island. It is eerily quiet; except from time to time, the light at the center will flicker on and spin a few times then, just as quickly as it came to life, the lighthouse returns to its slumber once more. No one knows if the lighthouse is haunted or if, perhaps, someone does live on the island of Waike.
  • The Atlanta - Perhaps the most terrifying and mysterious thing on the island is the Atlanta. At the center of Waike lies a large tree, one with twisting vines and hulking branches, full as the mind could imagine, of foliage. But the tree itself is not what is the most intriguing about the island, no... The biggest mystery of the island itself is perhaps the ship that is embedded within the tree. High up in the branches, resting in the forks of the two biggest branches is an old ship. How it got there, no one knows. Very few dare to venture up into the ship, if anything, for the fact that no-one knows if anyone lives there, or if the ship will come tumbling out of the treetop, should extra weight and movement be added.
  • The Cliffs - The backside of the island is protected by a large wall of cliffs. Those who try to circumvent the rocky outcroppings on the front of the island will only be met with certain doom when they try to enter the area from the back.
Lore:
  • Locals are heavily divided on whether or not the island itself or the lighthouse is haunted. There are indeed strange happenings around the island, but whether or not there is a basis for claiming that the island is haunted, is up in the air. On the other hand, outsiders argue that the island is not haunted at all and that the rumors are there to scare off treasure hunters.
  • While no one is sure how the Atlanta ended up in a tree, that has not stopped handlers and tokotas from speculating. Some say that the captain and crew of the ship were desecrating forests, which angered Aga who sought to punish them. She took their ship from them using nature to do her bidding. Others are not as creative and say perhaps that the ship was beached long ago and the tree ended up growing around it. No matter what you choose to believe or speculate, one thing is sure: It is an oddity that is awe-inspiring.
  • Eoghan’s Lighthouse has a habit of returning to life before storms, hence why the locals named it after the lesser deity.
  • Rumors have it that the cove off to the left of the island is home to a treasure beyond anything that anyone could imagine. No-one knows, however, if this is true because few have dared to try and enter the cove and those that have never returned.
