Kinalik, or Nali, is a native of Tokotna, living close to Kesuk Bay in a little fishing hut. She has a no-stupidity, firm and straight-forward personality but rarely gets loud or aggressive. In recent years she's been taking in Tokotas to help her with the work and to keep her company.

 

Nali was born to a native fisherman named Nilak and a finnish photographer named Helena Virtanen. They met on one of Helenas travels to capture the rough beauty of Tokotna. Nilak had offered to drive the woman out on the open sea to a sandbar where seals would gather. They got talking, somehow liking each other at first sight and Helena promised to visit him before she would travel back home. She did and for 7 years they held contact over phonecalls, letters and some visits. After this time Nilak proposed to her and Helena moved in with him. They soon became parents to a healthy baby girl.

 

Kinalik always loved the sea. She grew up at the shore watching her father in his old fishing boat reel in nets and working with the unpredictable sea. Even though she was raised with a lot of love and freedome her parents insisted she learned early on that you have to work hard to live a good life. She still lives by her parents words and values hard work. When Nali was old enough she took a few jobs in Coastal Tyonek. As a waitress, a janitor and later in a fish cannery. But nothing really felt good to her so she returned home when she was 25. There she spend 3 years helping her father, who was getting old, on his boat and found her love for fishing.

 

Nowadays, Kinalik lives on a little farm near Kesuk Bay. She keeps a small amount of animals. Some sheep, a few Highland Cows and some geese. But her main source of income is fishing. She rarely visits big citys and treasures her peace and quiet life out at the shore. But even she has felt a bit lonely in recent years and decided to take in Tokotas to spice her life up a bit and help her with herding and fishing.
