Inukshuk Medical Outpost
Description
GENERAL INFORMATION
Function: Overall the Medical Outpost is staffed by a small fleet of professionals and volunteers year-round, with most of its inhabitants taking refuge in the winter months when it's expanded in operation. The site is intended for locals, tourists and wayward individuals to make use of, especially in the months where the rest of the countryside is inaccesible due to the storms and closed-off roads.
Population:
Staff: Fluctuates between 20 in the winter months to 4 in summer months. Continuously manned with at least one person on-site at all times.
Patients: Usually sparsely populated, with three to five patients at any given time. Maximum capacity is at sixty patients if the clinic is fully-staffed, but rarely does the clinic exceed twenty.
Tokotas: Numerous tokotas from both Ahnah and Eska's packs make up the bulk of the permanant pack that resides here, usually there are around 15-20 tokotas present at any given time.
Location: Near the national parks, East of the Kobuk Valley. It is situated near a river. No year-round roads connect to its location. It is intended to be simple to access for nearby remote tribes. It's an easy two-day trip from Kasuk Bay and the local research center by Tokota.
OUTPOST SERVICES
Urgent Care Clinic: The only part of the site open year-round, used by local tribes, mostly the younger individuals who are less reliant on more ancient healing methods. This is a place to come if you are in need of a fix you can't take care of yourself
Seach and Rescue/Emergency Bay: In times of desperation, should someone be lost, an avalanche hit, or other storm phenomenon, the SAR team stationed here can be deployed. Eska Aujakopok heads up this team with his tokotas.
Maternity Ward : For high-risk pregnancies that cannot or do not wish to travel to Tokotna, they are permitted to get more careful treatment here. Primarily cared for by midwives, or occasionally volunteer or student physicians.
Short & Long Term Care : Used by and for elders nearby who need more intensive medical care than they can provide temporarily who do not wish to be hospitalized in Tokotna. The Outpost is only able to service those who do not have extensive needs but can make for a more comfortable medical stay for those who have lived their lives in the familiar rural surroundings
