Milky Way Lake

(Location)

Description

Milky Way Lake: This lake is located on the northern side of the territory, where there are two buildings nearby; one is a standard home and the other is a lakehouse on 3 acres of land. The sand in the lake is a copper red color, and it is common to find oysters at the bottom. Word of caution: There is a good chance your feet will get cut by the oysters, so be careful while swimming! The waters here are very deep, and is a good place for fishing. Some say there is a wild blueberry patch that is is hidden along the lake, and you can only travel by kayak to reach it.

Milky Way Lake is approximately 3,000 ft. long and 2,500 ft. wide with varying depth, circumference and overall shape. Even at the shoreline it gets deep very quickly. When it storms or engine-powered boats pass by, waves can crash in at a whopping 8 ft. in height. There areas in which lilypads, algae, and tall grasses/weeds grow along very still waters.

When walking onto the large wooden pier located next to the lakehouse at night, the galaxy and its stars become visible. Sometimes it's common to spot the droning light of a lighthouse in the distance at night as well. Bears and coyotes are highly prominent in this area, and it is advised you watch your step at night. The insects here are aggressive and relentless; horseflies and mosquitoes are likely to get to you first. Geese, ducks, woodpeckers, snakes, and eagles are also a common sight here. Dragonflies tend to hang around the pier, and are quite adapted to human interaction.

The best way to access the lake is by traveling on a hidden dirt road, boat, or seaplane. There are other larger lakes that are interconnected to Milky Way Lake. The area is very rural and mostly surrounded by multiple bodies of water. The only civilization closest to this location is a very small town a few miles out. Residents are friendly and always happy to see tourists (which they don't experience a lot of). It is said the local ice cream parlor has delicious assortments of sweet scoops for a great bargain, and many residents are fond of making jewelry and other items that one cannot find anywhere else. The meat and cheese produced here is to die for; another feature unique to the town.

In the winter this lake freezes over completely, allowing access to simply walk to and from destinations with ease. However, the snowfall is extremely heavy and snowmobiles are usually required to travel. The temperatures can plummet as low as -35 F. Due to the fact this location is further north, snow is usually dumped here the most.
