Closeby, an old abandoned mansion is renovated. In move Benjamin von Adlersthal and Maddock Dryden.

Benjamin is trying to escape from his family, and Maddock is returning to his brith place, though neither will admit to this.

They meet Ylvah and Kari around Christmas. Ylvah behaves strangely around Maddock. Benjamin is fed up because nobody can pronounce his last name correctly.
