He can read the emotions of those around him really well and is level headed enough to know how best to use this knowledge wisely. Additionally his tendency for gentleness makes him a sought-after listener and he easily makes friends. Yes, he's also a hopeless romantic. Possibly because of all the stories his breeder read to him as a pup, but regardless of reason he likes to romance a female before making any sort of moves - and honestly frivolous matings don't really interest him much anyways.
