Protective, loyal, though not entirely tame - he's the dominant tokota in the group though tends to prefer his own space in the wilds around the cabin. Mal will work with you, not for you - he can get aggressive if you try force him into doing anything he doesn't want to do. Still, Mal is a tokota that gets things done, come hell or high water, once he's taken on a task. He's usually found somewhere in Inara's vicinity even though he feigns aloofness when they have to interact.
