Halwende was first discovered on the end of the pathway to the Ridge of Elders. Many travelers who passed him believed that he had seen something there he should not have, and that his trespassing of the sacred place was the reason for the blindness in his eyes. This may have all been rumor, however. Whatever Halwende saw may have either been too much, or not enough to break him. He walked away from the ridge with an empty stare and a silent disposition. Halwende roamed tokotna freely until someone found interest in his life. Now he is in caring hands, and though he is shy and hesitant to the kindness offered to him, Halwende is learning to be loved.
