Hawke awoke finding himself in a crate, not knowing where he was or how he got there. The tokota couldn't even remember his own name. He was there hardly having any contact with other life and only came in when some strangers fed him. Terrified, he was about ready to do anything to get out of this prison. And because of this his wish had been granted so he could be free, two tokotas a black one named Raven and another grey one named Sevrin arrived before Hawke couldn't take it anymore. They carefully released Hawke from his prison, and brought him back to Sevrin's lands. Unfortunately, since Hawke couldn't remember his first name, Sevrin and the others both agreed that the name Hawke suited him. They also determined that he must've been a good Tokota in his past life before he forgot who he was. So they allowed Hawke to stay, and if he does decide to join Sevrin's pack, he will become an important member of it. Although he is a bit unusual looking, no one has judged him, as he struggles to figure out who he is. He has figured out that he had a family at one point, he didn't know any of their names, but he wonders if they are looking for him.
