Backshall and his best friend (thought to be twin brother) Irwin are inseparable and at times indistinguishable. Both suffer from moderate to severe anxiety when they are separated, which has never happened to date in their relatively short lives.

Like they share everything, they share a handler, and excel in dual-tokota sled races due to their intense coordination.

Backshall is the more mischievous and rambunctious, and comes up with hilarious tricks (at least, the twins think they are hilarious) to play on their friends.
