Onatah was born to a mighty bloodline of large tokotas with high expectations that were bred specially for traveling and battle. She was the 18th birthday gift to the chief's daughter of a tribe of people that lived in a large, snowy redwood forest. The chief's daughter Icelyn raised the young cream-colored tokota and quickly noted that the dire was hungry for something more; she loved to adventure and discover things. Icelyn named her Onatah, which means daughter of the earth. Their bond was exceptional and very close-knit. As Icelyn grew up, she fell in love and was engaged to the son of a neighboring tribe named Aaron. The two gave their birthrights of leadership to their siblings and decided to move away from their homes and start a new life in the valley of the Tartok mountains in a beautifully built log home where they deign to start their family with their small pack of tokotas.

Onatah is a large dire tokota that is almost uncomfortably dominant towards any other tokota that crosses her path. She's protective and closed off. It's very hard to get her to like you or even acknowledge you in a friendly sort of manner. The closest anyone has got to Onatah is an annoyed sort of tolerance. If you stay out of her way, then she'll stay out of yours, unless you give her a reason to. According to Icelyn and Aaron, there is a deep, rare gentleness to the beast, but only at rare moments when there aren't any strangers around. Icelyn noticed that she does have a soft spot for children and young things that makes all of her icy pride melt away and she becomes puppylike again, letting her facade melt away, if only for a moment or two. Icelyn suspects that her bruteness came from being raised for a few months around her mother's contempt for her "nightmare" of a father who wanted nothing to do with any of his children. Males are not Onatah's specialty, they make her feel like they'll overpower her like her father did to her mother in the brief moments they were together.
