As the saying goes, "A dog loves you more than himself." This is true for Sonny, as he love 3 things before himself; his dad, tennis balls, and Greenies dental treats.
Sonny was projected to be an emotional support dog, however he was washed-out as it was discovered he was just as anxious as his dad. However, he is much being a "regular" dog.
