Klaus was a constant source of joy to his previous owner and family. Despite being born of a breeding between two of the rarest Tokotas his owner kept, he and his brother didn't inherit the same unique traits. Still, his noble, kind and brave nature won over the family and he quickly became the favorite. He was content. His life however took an abrupt turn when he and his old owner were on a fishing trip and were attacked by poachers. In the skirmish his master fell into the icy lake and never resurfaced and the hunters took Klaus away, keeping him from going to his aid. He managed to escape a few months later and return to the lake where he last saw his friend. Starved and wounded he sat awaiting death until a young handler called Alan Harper and its haughty mount, Monifa, found him and led him to their village to recuperate.
