Lore:
Amikitsik was once a widow from a small, isolated village who had lost her husband at a young age. She felt a great void where once he’d stood at her side. So she began to care for the children of the village while their parents worked, hoping to fill the gaping wound. She worked herself to skin and bones, but the days grew harder and harder. Amikitsik had been a kind friend to the village's hunters so her troubles didn’t go unnoticed. The more she retreated to her home, the more the hunters left her gifts of small prey and pelts at her door.

Between the love and food laid at her feet, Amikitsik felt her worries finally begin to lessen. Slowly the young woman regained her lively glow and beauty. She realized that whenever she stepped outside, even if only for a few minutes, the gifts she received grew in number. The more eyes she caught, the more lavish her prizes became as well.
Enjoying her new fortune, Amikitsik put in more and more effort to be seen. The widow became extravagant with accessories and furs gifted by the hunters. She began to lord her fortunes over the wives and children she’d once cared for.

The hunters’ families grew angry as the wealth of the village ended up on Amikitsik’s doorstep. When confronted, the hunters spun a tale of ‘the witch’s power’ that had enchanted them. The village approached the elders, plying them with gifts as they pleaded for a solution. If the witch enjoyed hunting their men, then she herself should feel what it is like to be hunted.
The elders produced a necklace, a large, glowing blue stone surrounded by beads of blackened bone. They bade them to be careful as the spirits surrounding the talisman would be the form she would take for the hunt.

The villagers swarmed Amikitsik’s house, dragging the widow out into the snow. They stripped her of every necklace, ornament, and pelt she had been gifted. Screaming, Amikitsik clutched a tattered wolf pelt to her chest, while ruined gifts lay at her feet.
One of the hunters placed the necklace around her neck, letting the blue stone fall against the ruined wolf pelt.

The curse awoke with a horrendous sound as Amikitsik’s body twisted. Her face burst outward, revealing snarling fangs and a carved muzzle with a hole where her nose should be. Amikitsik howled in agony. The villagers panicked, the hunters drawing their bows while the young threw stones at the disfigured widow.

Amikitsik lashed out, consuming the closest hunter as her body contorted more. She was hungry, greedy, and the more she tasted, the more she craved. Through the night she consumed the village, leaving only an empty husk and Amikitsik to greet the morning sun. The monster fell to its knees and the widow slipped free from the white wolf’s pelt. Weeping, she stumbled back to her shattered home to gather her things within the cold house.

There are rumors the woman shuffles around the empty, ruined village, wrapped in white furs and mumbling about all she lost while collecting trinkets for her weathered home. For wearied travelers it's encouraged to never stay too long for Amikitsik awakes at nights to feed her hunger.

It is said that if you meet the grand white wolf, giving a magnificent gift can appease the beast until the next crossing. From time to time she has protected those who give the grandest of offerings. But if the gift doesn't fulfill her interest, then she fills her belly.
