Isla Obscura

Fosbir
Warm and subtropical, buffeted by storms.
Description:
An island in southern Fosbir that is surrounded by tall stone spires, challenging currents and wind patterns. Its location makes it a prime place for the remnants of shipwrecks to wash ashore. Residents of the isle describe two seasons - calm and storm.

Landmarks:
  • Blush Beach -Broken down rock from the reddish spires above has mixed with the calcium of corals that have been beaten by the tough tides of the cove to create blushy pink sandy beaches. The beach spans the entire crescent shape of the cove and is home to a myriad of little crustaceans and tough-as-nails shorebirds.
  • Leeside -The single town on Isla Obscura, home to the Wind Singers. Most homes are single or two story, and built of sturdy rock, often limestone. Doors to the homes are painted bright colours, and lintels are often painted gold.
  • The Night Market - Hosted during the calm season in the central square of town, the night market attracts merchants and traders of oddities from across the world. During calm season the market is filled with brightly coloured booths hung with bunting. During storm season the square is eerily empty.
  • The Wellsprings - The Wellspring is the island’s source of clean water. It bubbles up from deep underground, and remains cool and clear regardless of season. It is located south of Leeside, roughly in the middle of the isle.
  • Cultivated Gardens - Just south of the Wellspring are the ancient cultivated gardens. The Wind Singers didn’t plant them, but continue to maintain them. They feature an array of plant life originally found elsewhere in the world.
Lore:

Isla Obscure is currently inhabited by the Wind Singers tribe, and travelling traders. However, in the past it appears to have been previously inhabited and quite built up. It is unknown what happened to its previous occupiers. Most residents of the isle frequently scour the beaches after a storm blows through, hoping to find new treasures that have washed up. The isle is home to Windsprites, a breed of dog much prized by the Wind Singers due to their diving abilities.
