Scarred Plateau

Taniya
Much of the area is arid and dry, Which can be prone to drought and wildfires, however the lower elevation areas during times of the year flooding is a regular occurrence making the air unbearably humid.
Description:
In the northern reaches of Misae's territory, beyond the habitable lands, reside one of the most hostile landscapes it has to offer. The once pristine nature has been marred by continuous droughts, wildfires, floods and pollution over the decades leaving behind vastly unique yet jarring sites. Not only are the effects of its scarring seen in the land, those who have braved and ventured deeper into these parts tell of seeing many lifeforms who have either learned to adapt or suffer from the massive pollution and toxicity of the land.

Landmarks:
  • Bog of the Departed -This is what many would describe as a wetland gone rancid. Prone to bouts of drought and flooding brought on by the lack of vegetation upriver, and the heavy rainfall that accumulates in the basin, this “swamp” is located here because of this. The waters have become acrid and as such very little life can be supported. Local legend says this is home of a lost benevolent spirit who has been corrupted by the land, wandering adrift in longing of what once was.
  • Thunder Drum Valley -A place of dry spectacular thunderstorms which light up the night sky with their powerful lightning, and deafen any who are brave enough to venture through its trenches. However this particular climate causes regular forest fires making it near impossible for anything to take root or survive off the land surrounding for longer than a couple of seasons.
  • Matchstick Row -A bare mountain overlooking Thunder Drum Valley which has fallen victim to one of the worst and violent fire seasons to date. What once was a lush, heavily wooded old growth forest is now home to spindling charcoal black charred remains of many of the tallest trees that the locals around the area once knew. Some of which swept the clouds at a staggering 250 feet tall. In the wake of these fires lavender and sage cover the ground below the towering stumps.
  • The Obsidian Spires - Along this stretch of the coastline thousands of large hexagonal inky coloured basalt columns line the water, with steep drops of a hundred feet or more down into crashing white capped waves. While spectacular the beach is a treacherous place to venture. During dusk or dawn the sun is eaten by the ocean in a sea of colour, which reflects off the spires painting the entire area in brilliant shades of red and orange.
  • Sanguine Cascade - Rust coloured waterfalls fed by many of the unconfined aquifers under Mt. Mozz. Because of Mt. Mozz’s volcanic nature, and large iron deposits, each play a role in the bright and unusual colour of these falls and the river that feeds it.
  • Mount Mozz - A mostly dormant grey volcano dotted with tar fields, frequently spits out smoke in shapes that can sometimes resemble moose antlers due to the two vents in its crater. While many tourists find this fascinating, you will not find a local stopping to take a picture. Mozz’s last enormous eruption was the catalyst to many of the major events that snowballed into the phenomenon that is the scarred plateau today.
Lore:

It is said that there is a creature who inhabits these lands. Locals can never agree on precisely what that creature is – if anyone has seen it up close and personal, they haven’t divulged the details. The legends all seem to agree, though, this poor creature is as damaged as the land it walks.
