Description:

The Sidhel Slot Canyons are a labyrinthine grouping of extremely deep, steep-sided slot canyons, found deep in the badlands of Fosbir. When the weather is dry, they offer an unparalleled view of the different layers of rock and sediment that make up the landscape of Fosbir. During the day, as light filters down to their depths, the sides of canyons almost seem to glow with reds, oranges, pinks, and purples. The Canyons are hauntingly beautiful, but also incredibly dangerous because as soon as any precipitation falls in the region they are prone to flash flooding. Debris from past floods can be found all along the bottoms of the Canyons. Due to their dangerous nature, not all of the Canyons have been fully mapped.

Landmarks:

• The Divided Tree - An ancient petrified tree that became wedged in an area where two Canyons diverged hundreds of years ago. It creates strange shadows, and adventures are forced to pass under it to continue deeper into the Canyons.
• Shady Gulch - The longest of the charted Canyons, Shady Gulch runs for just over 21 miles, and features multiple partially eroded arches. The walls of Shady Gulch tower are between 200 and 350 feet above the canyon floor. Due to the twisting nature of the canyon walls, little light reaches the bottom.
• Glowstone Canyon - The most popular of the Sidhel Slot Canyons, Glowstone features exceptionally bright sedimentation with a prominent band of pyrite that glitters in the sun. It's a bit wider than many of the other slot canyons and is considered somewhat safer to venture into.
• Ehno’s Vein - A narrow river winding through one of the canyons. Algae grow along the rocks in the bottom, giving it a reddish hue. Rock formations break the shoreline on either side sporadically like great spikes of long-extinct creatures. In one particular area along the river, there are strange green trees that grow like insect antennae, known as stickle bug trees. Large squirrels inhabit this region, so campers beware!
• Mystery Eye Cavern - Along the river there's a secret cavern. Any adventurer fortunate enough to find it will see bright clean water trickling into a pool of clear water in the center of the cavern. In the center, a large gemstone sits beneath the water, giving the cavern its name. It's believed to be a shrine to a long-forgotten deity.

Lore:

• Legend has it that somewhere deep in the Sidhel Slot Canyons, a bandit hid his stash of stolen gold coins. The same bandit is said to have met his end in the Canyons during a flash flood.
• Stories of the origin of Ehno’s Vein usually involve a great beast (often but not always a bison) dying in the mountains which feed the river, its blood forever staining the river. Its claws come to rest further down the river, causing the stickle bug trees to grow. Where its eyeballs finally rested, deep holes were bored into the earth, forever hiding them from the light of the sun.
