The Oasis

Fosbir
Mild and pleasant, despite the relentless heat of the surrounding area.
Description:
After traveling for endless miles in the unending heat, heat waves dance off the cracked ground. In the distance, the welcoming sight of a green Oasis shimmers into view. Some wonder if it is a figment of the imagination after chasing the vision for miles. Others say that it is indeed real, swearing they have visited it and relaxed in its cooling waters. Scientists have tried to track down the beautiful area, but to no avail, and as such it is considered an illusion. However, the locals of the outback know how to find the location, stating it can take years to be able to track it down. There are those that think it appears only to wayward travelers and that Ehno himself conjures the area to save them from certain doom. The locals know that the only reason the Oasis is untraceable is due to its geographic coordinates. For some reason, the closer one gets to the Oasis, the more erratic one’s compass will act. For this reason, it is believed that many people lose themselves in the area and never find the Oasis.
Landmarks:
  • Ehno’s Horns- Two large pointed rocks jut out of the cliff face with life giving water spilling from the center. Perhaps their likeness to a bull’s horns has caused those that are lucky enough to find the area to believe that Ehno conjures the Oasis.
  • The Pillar- A massive natural stone pillar rises from the very center of the Oasis’ water. The surface is covered with generations worth of painted tributes. The most spectacular surrounds the mid-section. Large maned wolves, elephants and giraffes cavort around it.
  • Varaska's Embrace- Opposite of Ehno's Horns, a cave nestles into the shadows of a cliff. Next to the entrance, a weather-worn carving of Varaska is etched into the rock. Inside, the cave is large enough for two akotas to lay down comfortably. On the ground, a bed of clean, soft moss can be found. Dotting the ceiling is a fine net of a luminous plant that gives the small cave a comforting glow.
Lore:
  • The locals believe that the various spirits of Fosbir block the natural magnetic nature of the Oasis to protect it from those that would exploit it.
  • Legends say that rare and powerful healing herbs will appear here when desperately needed.
