The Turbulent Shores

Narnvak
One of the chiller areas of the region, it is known for its harsher winds creating larger waves that splash hard onto the beach's sand. This creates a misty tone to the area, as water droplets are consistently being flung into the air
Description:
Grassy hills begin a steep slope down towards the coast. The way is long and potentially dangerous, so handlers and Tokos alike must use a marked path if they wish to be safe. The beach itself is made of fine black sand. It's soft on a toko's paw pads and, unless wet, won't leave defined paw prints. Beautiful shells and sea glass of strange colors are known to wash up to the shore and a few hardy plants grow here. However, the main attraction to this area is not its greenery.
The winds here create massive waves which draw attention from those all over the region who enjoy surfing. Brave souls who wish to show off their skills make the journey to this location to prove themselves. These waves play nice with no man, creating dangerous rips and will often throw people off their boards and pull them into the ocean.
Landmarks:
  • The Salt Pit - The seawater enters a pit when it reaches high tide, through a little channel and, when the high tide is over, the water becomes trapped within the pit. The heat from the sun causes the water to evaporate, leaving nothing but pure salt. There is a sinkhole at the center of the pit that, over time, sucks the salt into a small network of caves under the fragile soil.
  • The Howling Stone - Off the shore near the far left side of the Black Sands stands a towering stone jutting out from the ocean. The stone acts as a breaker, making the beaches on the other side of it safer from seaspray and vicious waves. The stone itself stands at nearly 30 feet out of the water and is somewhat triangular. When the winds blow hard enough in this region the rock formation can almost make them sound like a low echoing whistle, giving it its name.
  • The Black Spire - A building north of the Salt pit that has long been abandoned and has started to succumb to nature. The tall black spire is falling apart and the stairs on the inside lead to no rooms. No one remembers the history of the building or what its use was.
Lore:
  • It is believed this beach has gained its colors from the ancient Toko tribes that once lived here. Ancient dark-coated Tokos roamed and died on the beach so often that the beach itself adopted their black colors. Others argue that it was cursed by Meelanik, who wanted the creatures of the beach to sate his unending hunger with themselves. When they refused and hid in the sand, he became enraged and trampled the beach with his fiery paws and hooves, forever scorching the sand. With the sand turned black, it was much easier for the dark spirit to see the creatures and pick them off.
  • There are rumors that the Spire used to go to the heavens, though many of the tribe elders will dismiss these as hearsay.
