Ulitunnik

-
Description:
Ulitunnik is an area of dense forest full of moss, lichens, and conifers, known best for a river system that has carved dozens of sudden, precipitous ravines through the area. Glacial activity and frequent, intense flooding in the past have dug the riverbeds hundreds of feet deep. There are plenty of reasons to come to the bottom of the ravines. Salmon, eels, and trout swarm the rivers. Herons and eagles fly low through the narrow passes. Visitors can explore a labyrinth of steep-sided granite walls crowned with enormous pines. Above all of this, the sky is often a deep grey fog, a blanket of nimbus, or a towering stormcloud. Both because of and in spite of the weather, it’s an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Unfortunately, the ravines have claimed many lives over the years. Rain over the nearby mountains or over the forest itself causes recurrent and unpredictable flooding. It’s no easy climb to get out; not only are the canyon sides nearly sheer drops, they are often slick with humidity or rain. Explorers are strongly encouraged to let others know where they are going, and to check in frequently, but not everyone does, and plans can go awry. For this reason, Ulitunnik is the area most heavily patrolled by the Riders on the Storms.
