Nero has had an awful life. He was kidnapped as a juvenile and mistreated until his spirit was broken. He is now the mount for the leader of a gang of poachers that steals and kills other tokotas like him. He is so vicious he has become the default leader of his pack of mentally unstable tokos. They respect his strength and cunning and have come to call him Commander, the same title the humans use to refer to Nero's rider.
