User Breeding Request Limits

  • You may request a maximum of two standard breedings per month, which may be specified fully to you, OR split with another member.
  • Breedings that you post and split with other members will still consume your personal breeding slots.
  • You may unlock a third breeding request by providing an Inukshuk Talisman, using the Woodpecker Totem, or producing a breeding image/story of both Tokotas involved in the breeding. You can find breeding image/story rules in the section below.
  • If you breed a Tokota with the Passionate trait, it will unlock a fourth Monthly Breeding Slot for you. Passionate II unlocks a fifth Monthly Breeding slot!
  • You may claim partial ownership in breedings not posted by you, only 2 in which you receive PoTL (Pick of the Litter). However, you cannot claim PoTL in a litter not posted by you if:
    • You own both Tokotas being bred.
    • You own the permissions to both Tokotas being bred.
    • You own one of the Tokotas and own the other's breeding permission.
    • **This is considered an attempt to have another user post a breeding for you which is against the rules.
  • You may claim partial ownership in breedings not posted by you, 5 of which you do not receive PoTL.
  • You may have three starter breedings posted by you. A fourth Monthly Starter Breeding slot can be unlocked using the Ardent trait.
    • You cannot involve Starter Tokotas in other types of breedings (standard, image/talisman, passionates).
    • Starter breedings can be split but it won’t count towards your monthly starter slot limit if another user posts (the slot must come from the other user’s bank in that case). It will still count as a split for your monthly slots.
  • You have three days after breedings reopen to post your corrections from the previous month for it to count for the previous months' breedings slots. After that time window, you will need to re-post to the main thread, at which point it will count for the current month.
  • Abandoned Puppies thread has no limits to reveals except for Bone Flutes, which are limited to four per month.
  • You may not attempt to circumvent breeding request limits by having a friend or another account post a breeding for you. If you are caught trying to circumvent the breeding limits, you will face a possible ban from breeding.

Slots and Permissions

  • A breeding permission is a comment written out, and posted, by the Tokota's owner to give permission to breed their Tokota(s).
    • What is required: The username of the person receiving the permission, the tokota's tokotna link, and a set number of slots that may be used.
    • Each breeding permission can only list ONE user (who receives the slot permission) but may have multiple tokotas listed for that one user to use.
  • You cannot claim a breeding slot without written permission from the owner.
    • The user must be the owner of the Tokota at the time of writing a breeding slot permission.
    • Slot permissions must be posted to the Sire/Dam Owner Approval thread in the Breeding Requests journal.
  • A Tokota must have AoAs and be of at least Average hierarchy in order to be bred.
    • Submissive, Sterile, Infertile, and Tokotas out of usable breeding slots may not breed.
      • Submissive Tokota slots written on or before December 31, 2016 are still able to be used.
      • Any breeding using Submissive Tokotas has a chance at rolling an empty litter (no puppies).
    • Until the Tokota is breedable, the only type of deal you may make in exchange for a slot to that Tokota must include making the Tokota breedable.
      • Members may take on a deal to complete a Tokota's AoAs in exchange for a slot to it, or AoAs and HP to Average if the Tokota is Submissive.
    • Breeding slots may not be written out before AoAs are judged by an admin.
  • Breeding slots must immediately be available for use at the time they are written.
  • Both parties should be aware of the owner’s breeding slot rules.
    • Admins will only enforce “No Inbreeding”.
      • Any other rules will be up to the players to enforce themselves such as “No Reselling Slots” or “No Shrining Slots”.
    • Deadlines or “must be used by” dates in breeding slot rules are not allowed.
  • New owners must honor breeding slots written by previous owners.
  • Admins can force write a breeding slot if the buyer has contacted the seller and has not received a response after a set amount of time, usually two weeks or longer. This rule can have different time frames depending on each individual situation.
  • Gifting and reserving breeding slots
    • Gifting or reserving breeding slots to friends or other players is allowed, but not before the Tokota is breedable.
    • Gifting or reserving slots to yourself before selling the Tokota is allowed, however you must inform the buyer/make it known before selling.
    • Gifting slots to be used in raffles is allowed, but not before the Tokota is breedable.
      • Doing any of the above too often or without informing the buyer will result in a warning as it is misleading to buyers.
  • Trading and selling breeding slots
    • Trading slots for other slots, items, art, or currency is allowed.
    • Trading, selling, or promising breeding slots before the Tokota is breedable is not allowed.
  • Reselling breeding slots
    • If a player has a personal rule that you may not resell the slot to their Tokota, it is common courtesy to abide by their rules. The group does not enforce no reselling.
    • It is polite to contact the owner before reselling slots, even if they do not state it in their breeding slot rules.
  • Writing slot permissions for “unlimited breedings” or “until x outcome” is not allowed. A set amount of slots must be specified.
  • Breedings requests cannot be posted before both sire and dam both have their AoA badge posted on their Tokotna import. Any attempts to do so will be denied and may result in a warning.

Supplements

You have a few options for adding breeding supplements to your breeding request. Any supplementary items you wish to apply to your breeding must be in your bank prior to having the litter rolled.

Penalties

There are a few ways that breedings can result in Penalties or Health Risks.
Visible Inbreeding
You can check if inbreeding is present using the Tokotas Lineage Checker. If breeding Tokotas that are/will be inbred, the following Health Statuses may occur in your litter:
  • Blind: Tokotas that are blind will receive a -5% to success in any Fishing activity. These Tokotas also will receive a -20 in Working events.
  • Deaf: Tokotas that are deaf will receive a -5% to success in any Hunting activity. These Tokotas also will receive a -20 in Teamwork events.
  • Frail: Tokotas that are frail will receive a -5% to success in any Diving activity. These Tokotas also will receive a -20 in Sporting events.
  • Lame: Tokotas that are lame will receive a -5% to success in any Caving activity. These Tokotas also will receive a -20 in Racing events.
  • Spinal Defects: Tokotas that have spinal defects will receive -5% to success in any Exploration activity. These Tokotas also will receive a -20 in Performing events.
  • Infertility
  • Deceased Pups
    • Deceased genos cannot be transferred to other users. Comments dividing split litters with one or more deceased genos must indicate which split partner owns the deceased geno(s). A deceased geno (born after Nov 5th, 2019) can be resurrected with the use of a PotA Token earned by completing the Passage of the Alpha.

Inbreeding falling off the lineage
The breeding will be rolled with the same penalties as normal inbreeding, however the resulting pups will not be marked as inbred in their health status.

Merle x Merle
Breeding two Tokotas with the Merle Gene may result in pups with homozygous merle. These Tokotas may be affected by the same health risks as inbred Tokotas.

Sore Injury
Depending on severity of the injury, the chances of an empty litter rises.

Preventing Deceased Pups
The only way to prevent pups from being born deceased is by using a special holiday item, which may also be found in a very rare Random Event, the Box of Chocolates.

Breeding Image/Literature Requirements

You may unlock a third breeding request slot each month by posting a breeding image or literature of both Tokotas involved in the breeding.
General
  • The content can be of anything you want -- the Tokotas hanging out, playing, curled up by the fire and so on -- but they must be PG and not require a mature filter.
  • Handlers/starters are not required.
  • Submissions must be uploaded to your DeviantArt gallery, not sta.sh
  • You may commission breeding images/stories.
  • Breeding images/lit gain +2HP as if it were an activity, but cannot be submitted to TokoCenter to be rolled as an activity or reused for anything else within the group.
  • If the breeding image/story needs edits, the breeding will be sent to corrections and you will be required to resubmit it.
  • A unique image/literature piece is required each time you breed the same pair for your third breeding slot -- each image/lit entry can only be used once. Admins will comment on the submission when it is used.
  • You cannot use a breeding image for starter or passionate monthly slots. They can only be used in place of the third monthly slot unlock.
  • You may use an Inukshuk Talisman in place of a breeding image/story. Link to an admin comment for the Talisman within the breeding form, or identify if it's in your bank. If you have the Woodpecker Totem on your Totem Pole you may use it instead of a Talisman/Image.
Art

Universal Art Requirements

  • Image must be at minimum 300x300 pixels to be valid. Pixel art may be scaled up to meet these requirements.
  • Images must be relatively clean and may not look sketchy and unfinished. All art will be judged against your own gallery standards.
  • Tokota(s) must be depicted as full body (75% visible) in order for entry to be valid.
    • Where required, Handlers, Starters, or Lore Figures must be depicted as half body (50% visible).
    • When required, prey animals must have at least 25% visibility to be valid.
  • A semi-complex background is required, following requirements in the Activities Visual Guide. Large open spaces should be colored, textured, shaded, or broken up by other shapes and elements. Generally you must have 3-4 unique elements for your background.
    • At least 50% of depicted Tokotas, handlers, prey, etc. must be on the background, not in transparent or white space.
  • Images must be colored and all depicted Tokotas must have identifiable markings.
  • Greyscale, Monochromatic, and Color Palette themed images are permitted. They are held to the above rules where all Tokotas must be identifiable with easily discernible markings.
  • Shading is optional and not required.
  • All art must be your own original work, adhere to rules laid out in the Group Rulebook and may not be re-used in multiple parts of the Tokotas group.
    • Tracing other artists' work, using bases, presets, premade 3D models, or AI (Artificial Intelligence) Generated Art is prohibited in all aspects of the Tokotas Group. You may not use it for any submission, as whole or part of an image.
  • You may have your images take place off Tokotna, and in fantastic settings. Tokotas may have your own personal lore which does not match that of the group. They must always be depicted as Tokotas, however, not real or fictional creatures of any other kind.

Breeding Image/Literature Specific Requirements

  • None
Literature

Universal Literature Requirements

  • Literature entry must be at least 1200 words.
  • Entry should be focused on and relevant to the activity or prompt, with a clear beginning and end.
  • Tokota(s) must be present consistently through the entry. Generally a Tokota must be mentioned at least 6-7 times.
  • Where required, Handlers, Starters, or Lore Figures must also be present throughout entry with similar requirements to the above.
  • Entry should not be padded with overly excessive repetition of names, descriptions, etc.
  • All literature must be your own original work, adhere to rules laid out in the Group Rulebook and may not be re-used in multiple parts of the Tokotas group.
    • Plagiarizing other writers’ work or AI (Artificial Intelligence) Generated Literature is prohibited in all aspects of the Tokotas Group. You may not use it for any submission, as whole or part of an image.
  • You may have your stories take place off Tokotna, and in fantastic settings. Tokotas may have your own personal lore which does not match that of the group. They must always be depicted as Tokotas, however, not real or fictional creatures of any other kind.

Breeding Image/Literature Specific Requirements

  • None

Attempted Overbreeding/Overselling Slots

  • Tokotas cannot breed past their currently available slot limits.
  • Owners who are found overselling breeding slots may face a ban from breeding. (Determined on a case by case basis.)
    • If current slot holders can be adequately reimbursed for their purchase past the Tokota's current lifetime limit, the owner will receive a formal warning.
    • If current slot holders cannot be adequately reimbursed for their purchase past the Tokota's current lifetime limit, the owner will receive a formal warning and the Tokota in question will be sterilized. It can never again earn more slots, but slot holders will be permitted to use their last slots.
  • When purchasing a Tokota, be aware of how many slots are used and how many slot permissions are written for that Tokota so that you do not accidentally oversell/overpromise breeding slots.
  • Exceptions may arise (e.g. a previous owner oversold slots and the current owner is attempting to earn more slots, etc.) which will be dealt with on a case by case basis. If you have a concern regarding your Tokota's current slot count (listed on the Tokota’s Slot page on their Tokotna import) please note the group.

What To Post vs. What Not To Post

By listing the essentials, your breeding will be rolled swiftly. If you include extraneous unnecessary information, you risk your breeding being sent to corrections. Below is a list of what you should include in your breeding, and an accompanying list of reasons why your breeding may be declined, and why you may be asked to repost to corrections.

Please note that Tokotna.com has premade breeding forms underneath the Forms tab > Breeding for Tokotas with AoAs (breeding rites). It is mandatory to use this form as it has all applicable traits/items applied to the Tokota listed already, and you can simply remove what you do not want rolled!

Breeding Requests, Regular Thread

Sire: (Link to Tokotna import) / Dam: (Link to Tokotna import)
  • List the sire and dam by linking to their Tokotna import pages
    • Make sure the sire is male, and the dam is female!
    • If the Tokota is Alpha but you do not want it to be rolled as such, you may specify “roll as Dominant”.
    • Use the breeding form generated by Tokotna.
Owner approval: (remove or leave blank if you are the owner)
  • Link to the sire and dam's breeding permissions, written by the owner (if any,) or leave blank if you own the Tokota.
    • Breeding permissions written by anyone but the current or a former owner of the Tokota will be declined (e.g. a permission for another member to split a full slot you received from another user is unnecessary. Link directly to the original breeding permission only.)
    • Breeding permissions that do not include a link to the Tokota's tokotna import will be declined.
      • Breeding permissions written prior to Tokotna’s creation will not be declined.
      • Linking to a Tokota’s DeviantArt image will also result in your breeding being declined.
    • Breeding permissions written after a Tokota has used all of their currently available slots will result in a declined breeding and the owner will be contacted.
  • Tokotas requested to be transferred to a new owner do not legally belong to the new owner until an admin has confirmed the transfer. (Use the transfer system on Tokotna unless the member you are transferring to/from does not have an account. Keep in mind that the manual transfer thread is not as quick as a Tokotna transfer and may take several weeks.)
    • Breeding permissions written by a new owner for a Tokota that is requested to be transferred but not confirmed by an admin will be voided and the new owner will receive a warning.
    • Breeding requests placed by a new owner of a Tokota that is requested to be transferred but not confirmed by an admin will be declined and the new owner will receive a warning.
Sire's Hereditary Traits and Mutations/Breeding Companions: / Dam's Hereditary Traits and Mutations/Breeding Companions:
  • Include only Physical Traits, Hereditary (passable) Non-Physical Traits and breeding-relevant companions.
  • Include hereditary mutations on the form. (Cross, Melanism, Leucism, Reversal, Marbled, Harlequin, Obsidian) If you forget to list them they will still be rolled for; listing them helps ensure that the breeding roller sees them.
  • In order for traits to be used in a breeding they must be listed, and rolled for. (Oona's Blessing, Queen's Blood, etc.) The only trait that can be used, and not listed or rolled for, is the Passionate trait as it does not affect the litter/outcome.
  • You may only list these breeding companions:
    • Trait Pass Rate Boosters: Pygmy Goat, Lovebird (do not stack)
    • Litter Size Boosters: Capybara, Koala, Panda, Swan, Snowshoe Hare, Spirit Dove, Aga Sprite
    • Physical Trait Booster: Pug
    • Miscellaneous Boosters: Meelanik Sprite (must be specified what it is being used toward.), Tapetoe, Barghest, Kelpie
  • Do not include any of the RoM Traits, Alpha Traits, Elemental Traits, or Bonding Traits. The only exceptions are the following:
    • Mimic
    • Prominent
  • Do not include anything else that isn't a physical trait, hereditary non-physical trait, hereditary mutation or a breeding companion
    • Do not list Non-Hereditary Mutations (Albinism, Chimerism, Bloodmark.)
    • Do not list Mane types (Curly, Yeti, etc.)
    • Do not list Dire Percentages, 'Dwarfism,’ Akota, or etc.
    • Do not list Hierarchy if it is not Alpha
      • You may, however, request an Alpha Tokota to be rolled as Dominant.
    • Do not include any trait or companion descriptions in your breeding request. You will be sent to corrections for including them as they clutter the form and make it difficult to read, lengthening the process.
    • If your Tokota has the Offering to the Gods Trait and you want to use it, you must specify which item to remove from your bank in return for the trait's bonus. Link your Tokotna bank as well if it is not already linked in your breeding form.
    • Including irrelevant traits/companions/information will result in your breeding being sent to corrections.
Tokotna Profile: (Link to your Tokotna Profile)
  • You must link to your Tokotna profile for admins to check your faction and mark on your Monthly Limits tracker.
Litter specifications: (If splitting, who receives first pick?)
  • Who receives PoTL (Pick of The Litter, first pick of the pups) must be decided when you post.
  • You cannot list "conditionals" (e.g. "If a toki, I receive first pick; if not a toki, they receive first pick.")
  • If you are claiming full ownership of the litter, say "Full to me".
  • Members we see consistently taking the best pups from split litters, even when they do not receive PoTL, may be subject to investigation.
  • You may not receive PoTL if you are not posting the breeding request while you
    • A. own both Tokotas being bred
    • B. own the permissions to both Tokotas being bred, or
    • C. own both one of the Tokotas and own the other's breeding permission. This is considered an attempt to have another user post a breeding for you which is against the rules.
Split Partner’s Tokotna Profile: (Link to split partner’s Tokotna Profile - remove if not splitting)
  • If you are splitting a litter with a partner you must link their Tokotna profile for admins to mark their Monthly Limits tracker.
Faction (PL, PB, LK, KS, WT, TB or Neutral?):
  • To join a faction go to your profile and click 'manage profile' on Tokotna.com!
  • If you are changing your faction, having joined one already, check under 'manage profile' to see if you have a faction switch left!
  • Remember you may only change your faction four times a year. Your faction switch count resets on the 1st of January each year.
Is inbreeding present?: Yes/No
  • Quickly check if inbreeding is present using the Tokotas Lineage Checker.
  • If inbreeding is present, even if the litter itself will not visibly show as inbred, be aware of penalties and health risks which may result from inbreeding. Please read the Breeding Penalties section above for more information.
  • Slot permissions stating "inbreeding not allowed" can void a breeding request in which inbreeding is attempted.
  • If you incorrectly answer if inbreeding is present (or miss it), your breeding will be sent to corrections.
    • Only list "yes" if inbreeding is present.
Roll if injuries present? Yes/No
  • If a Tokota has a Sore injury listed on their import the breeding result may be affected depending on the severity.
    • Mild: 10% Empty Litter Chance
    • Moderate: 20% Empty Litter Chance
    • Severe: 30% Empty Litter Chance
  • You can choose 'Yes' to still have a breeding rolled with the chance of an injury affecting the roll or you can choose 'No' to not have a breeding rolled with an injured Tokota. If a Tokota is injured and you selected 'No' the breeding will be sent to corrections. For more information on injuries see the Injuries and Healing journal.
Are you using a Passionate I/II Trait? Yes (I or II?)/No
  • You may utilize the Passionate I and Passionate II traits to unlock one extra breeding each per month.
  • If a tokota you are breeding has either Passionate I or Passionate II, you may utilize the trait's benefit regardless of the owner's permission (they cannot dictate how you use your breeding slots.)
  • Breedings that fail to indicate use of Passionate Trait for members that have already used their two standard available breedings that month will be sent to corrections.
Supplementary items: (Remove or leave blank if none)
  • Make sure you purchase the correct breeding supplement for your breeding (Close Care / Fertility Supplements / Fertility Root).
    • Starter Breedings may only use the Fertility Root.
  • Companions that act as supplements must also be listed in this section (Swan / Aga Sprite / Meelanik Sprite).
  • If using an Elemental Heart as a Stylist Token, please specify on the form what the Stylist Token will be used for (which mane, which gene, which trait, etc.)
  • All breeding supplements must be in your Tokotna bank. Admins will no longer purchase supplements for you as of July 2021.
- Proof of Items: (Link to your Tokotna bank account)
  • Even if items are not used, please link to your bank as admins check your profile for proof of Faction.
Tribe Rare Mane Bonus: (Link to your Tribe's Tokotna Page if applicable)
  • Make sure your Tribe has the Rare Mane Bonus unlocked. Admin will double-check as well.
  • If using the tribe bonus, make sure your username is listed correctly on your tribe's memberlist on Tokotna and that you qualify for the Breeder achievement.

  • Starter: you must link to the starter toko’s tokotna import.
  • Pyrite: list you are using a ‘Pyrite’ slot.
  • If you are not using a Starter or Pyrite slot for one of these lines follow Regular breeding guidelines
Owner approval:
  • Starter: Link to your bank and specify what tier (bronze, silver, gold, platinum) of slot is being used. You must use a starter tier slot that is the same or higher tier than the starter being bred. For example: If you have a Bronze Slot, you may select any starter from the Bronze list. If you have a Silver Slot, you may select any starter from the Silver list or the Bronze List.
    • If splitting a litter with another user that owns the starter slot being used your split partner must add an addendum comment to allow the starter slot be removed from their bank.

  • Only list “yes” if inbreeding is present.
Roll if injuries present?: Yes/No
  • Follow Regular breeding guidelines.
Supplementary items:
  • Starter Slot breedings follow regular guidelines.
  • Pyrite Slot breedings are randomly selected at the time of being rolled so you can not know what the pairing will be at the time of posting. However, you can agree to apply items ahead of time and have them used based on the pairing selected.
- Fertility Root: Yes/No
  • Fertility Roots are the only litter size supplement item that can be used in Starter and Pyrite breedings. They act as a Fertility Supplement, Close Care, etc.
- Build Supps (Dire rem/TTT): Yes/No - specify

Extraneous Comments

There is a maximum comment count on DeviantArt journals. Breeding threads fill up over a period of months, even years, to the point of reaching this limit and breaking. It is important to keep comment counts to an absolute minimum, especially since the DeviantArt Eclipse update where broken journals’ comments are completely wiped. Members can help reduce comment strain by respecting the following rules.

Apart from the original breeding comment, the only additional comments regular members should make is ownership transfer of genos. We understand that sometimes you make mistakes or change your minds after the original breeding comment is no longer editable! Therefore we recognize the following exceptions.

If and only if the original breeding comment is no longer editable (24 hours have passed since first posted), you are allowed one grace comment per breeding for one or a combination of the following circumstances:
  • You (the poster) or another member may add breeding supplements, including crafted breeding items and stylist tokens.
  • You (the poster) may remove any unwanted breeding supplements currently listed, including crafted breeding items and stylist tokens.
  • You (the poster) may swap out one of the Tokotas in the breeding.
  • You (the poster) or another member may add a hereditary trait or breeding companion that was added to the Tokota(s).
You may add a comment only once. If you need to edit your breeding with more than one comment, hide the original comment and all subsequent replies and repost to the main thread. No one wants that, so post carefully!

Additionally, do not:
  • Reply to the roller if you have a question or concern about your breeding result, including declined comments; instead, note the group.
  • Add an additional comment to tag a Tokota's owner if you forget to in your original comment; instead, note them a link to the breeding.
  • Have conversations on the breeding thread. Do not comment on other members' litters.
  • Tag other members just to show them the results of the breeding; instead, note them a link to the breeding.
  • Comment that your Tokota has been updated to Dominant/Alpha. Rollers already check for their hierarchy on their import while rolling the breeding.
    • With the exception that a Tokota that is Alpha to be rolled as Dominant.
  • Comment to confirm split breedings/permission to use a slot.
    • This includes tagging your split partner to say the litter has been rolled.
  • Comment "x to me" if you already have full ownership of the litter.
  • Log genos for your own personal use (e.g. "sent to shrine", "uploaded"). Only admins may make such comments to avoid confusion. If you must keep track, do so in a private sta.sh, journal, or document.
Members who continue to add extraneous comments may be subject to a warning or possible ban from breeding.
